William W. McMillan, Jr. and James E. Hill after Olympics Wins, 1960
"Olympic Champs-Marine Captain William W. McMillan, Jr. (left) and Gunnery Sergeant James E. Hill, (right) are personally commended by General David M. Shoup, Commandant of the Marine Corps, for their shooting victories in the 1960 Rome Olympics. McMillan holds the pistol which earned him the 33rd U.S. Gold Medal for winning the rapid-fire competition in a special shoot-off. Hill took a silver medal for the U.S. with his close second-place win in the smallbore rifle prone position championship. The Marine champions met with General Shoup at Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C. (Sept 14) shortly after arriving from Rome. McMillan, now stationed at Quantico, Va., is from Turtle Creek, Pa. Hill is from Portland, Ind., and is presently serving at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif."
