Wimpertierchen sind ein Stamm der Alveolata, zu dem etwa 7500 Arten gezählt werden. Sie gelten als die am höchsten entwickelten und am stärksten differenzierten Protisten. StrombidiumStrombidium ist eine Gattung fast ausschließlich mariner planktonischer Wimpertierchen (Ciliaten) in der Ordnung Oligotrichida, die etwa 30 Arten (Spezies) umfasst. Wie andere Ciliaten sind sie einzellige Eukaryoten (Protisten), die sich mit Hilfe von Flimmerhärchen fortbewegen. Bei Strombidium sind wie bei den anderen Oligotrichida diese Flimmerhärchen am Zellkörper jedoch entweder stark reduziert oder ganz verloren gegangen. Nur die Flimmerhärchen um die Mundöffnung bilden große und auffällige Strukturen, die Membranellen genannt werden und ebenfalls der Fortbewegung dienen. .. weiterlesen
