Glasnevin cemetery Glasnevin, or more properly Prospect, cemetery opened in 1832 at a time when most cemeteries were officially Protestant and if Catholics were buried in them, Catholic prayers were not allowed to be said at their gravesides. Prospect was non-denominational: most of the Republican heroes are buried here among the thousands of graves that spread over its 120 acres.
