Beschreibung:
Andrew Myrick. (1832-Aug. 18,1862) Trader at the Lower Sioux Ageny a Dakota Sioux reservation (est. 1853) in Minnesota. His actions in regards to dealing with the Soux is considered one of the precipitaing factors of the U.S.-Dakota War of 1862. He was killed on the first day of hostilities when the agency was attacked by the Sioux. He escaped from a second floor window of the agncy store but was caught and killed.
His corpse was found with the mouth stuffed with grass in retaliation to his remarks to the effect of leting the Sioux eat grass if they were hungry after cutting of their credit to purchase food at the agency store in order that hunger would make them more compliant in paying their outstanding debts which they incurred whenwhen annuity payments guaranteed by treaty were not forthcoming due to graft and corruption.
