Die Mittelmeermöwe ist eine Vogelart innerhalb der Möwen (Larinae). Sie brütet in Makaronesien, an der Biskaya, auf der Iberischen Halbinsel, im Mittelmeer- und im Schwarzmeerraum. Zerstreute Vorkommen gibt es auch im nördlichen West- und Mitteleuropa.
