This is a view from outside the fortress, looking towards an arch that stands in front of the Golden Gate.This is a smaller entrance gate, of which Strolling through Istanbul (guidebook) says "When Theodosius II decided to extend the city […], it was presumably in connection with this new wall that he built the small marble gate outside the triumphal arch…”. This is that gate. Behind it we see on either side one of the pylons that one can enter during a visit to the fortress, walking on the roof towards the other pylon, and thus in the middle being above the spot of the Golden Gate.
