William Montagu
William Montagu, 1st Earl of Salisbury (1301-1344), detail from the Salisbury Roll, "Copy A" (c.1483-5). He displays the Montagu arms (modern) Argent, three fusils conjoined in fess gules on his breastplate, whilst his maternal arms of de Montfort (Bendy of eight or and azure)[1][2] are shown on a shield at left. He wears as crest: A griffin's head couped wings expanded or gorged with a collar argent charged with three lozenges gules (Fairbairn’s Crests of the Families of Great Britain and Ireland
