Messengers from the Castle reportthat the latest balm which he had tried failed to bring relief. Gurnemanz is much grieved,and sinks down in dejection, until he is roused by the approach of Kundry, who comes inhurriedly, dressed in sombre garments and in her normal mind, but exhausted with fatigue.She brings a new remedy which she had sought in distant Arabia. When Amfortas arriveswith his train for a bath in the sacred lake, the new balm is offered to him. He accepts andthanks the strange-looking woman for her kindness.
