Until this week the Aviation Safety Network incorrectly claimed the photograph was under copyright to the United States Civil Aeronautics Board, a former entity of the United States Government, but I sent them a letter disagreeing with that assessment. They agreed with my letter, and changed the license assertion on their hosting page, but have not yet removed the erroneous copyright watermark at the bottom of the photo. I have cropped out the watermark for this version to avoid further confusion.

April 1958 um 08:30 Uhr Ortszeit eine Douglas DC-7 mit einem Kampfflugzeug der United States Air Force in der Luft kollidierte. An Bord der Douglas DC-7 befanden sich 42 Passagiere und fünf Besatzungsmitglieder, im Cockpit der North American F-100F Super Sabre befanden sich ein Pilot in Ausbildung und dessen Fluglehrer. Der Zusammenstoß ereignete sich über Nevada, etwa 15 km südwestlich von Las Vegas. Beide Flugzeuge gerieten infolge der Kollision außer Kontrolle und stürzten ab. Es gab keine Überlebenden.
