Der Taifun Tip von 1979 war der stärkste und größte tropische Wirbelsturm, der je beobachtet wurde. Er richtete schwere Überflutungen in ganz Japan an und versenkte am ost-chinesischen Küstenstreifen und besonders auf den Philippinen zahlreiche Schiffe.
