Photograph showing Wilfred Thesiger near the Gulf of Tadjoura (French Somaliland, now Djibouti) taken at the end of his 1933-1934 expedition across Aussa country (Aussa Sultanate), which stood astride the border between Ethiopia and French Somaliland. The expedition is narrated in his book The Danakil Diary. Journeys through Abyssinia, 1930-1934.
