The Laines, Brighton 'The Laines' is the name given to a compact area of very narrow streets and passages just to the west of Old Steine. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the old quarters of many Mediterranean cities. Although there is a variety of shops here, up-market jewellers and art galleries proliferate.
