He was a great executive, a man of tact, firmness, andbroad comprehension. He was a devoted pastor. His own high andblameless character was an example and an inspiration to hispeople. But what was more to their hearts than all else, he wasvery truly their father: sympathetic, affable, open to all, con-cerned for all. Above and beyond their admiration for hiscapable government and their reverence for his ecclesiasticalauthority and their pride in his accomplishments, his peoplegave him that which is the highest tribute in a peoples power,their sincere love and their complete, affectionate confidence. 1»6 THE CRBIGHTON CHRONICLE In the very brief time Archbishop Harty has been in hisnew diocese, it has been a matter of delight to see how the charmof his personality has grown upon the people of Omaha. Asthey come to know him better, they will surely esteem himeven more. May God give him many years for the service andupbuilding of his diocese and for the profit and edificationof us all.
