Tay road bridge Opened by the Queen mother in Aug 1966 the Tay Road Bridge is just over 2200 metres long. Designed by William Fairhurst and built by Logan Construction of Muir of Ord. The designer is said to have designed it to look like a sword from Fife thrust into the heart of Dundee, he was a Fifer. When opened it cost half a crown for cars to cross and ten schillings for HGVs whilst motor bikes could cross for a schilling. Today they go free, cars cost 80p and trucks 2 pounds for a there and back crossing.
The bridge became toll free at midnight, Feb 10 2008.
