The Olavsoka Boat Race 2010. This is the category Men's 6-mannafor. The boat in the foreground is Strálan from Strendur in Eysturoy, Faroe Islands the other white boat behind it is Skúgvur from Sandavágur on Vágar island. There are several boat races held around the Faroe Islands through June and July, the Ólavsøka boat race in Tórshavn is the final one, always held on the eve of Olavsoka, which is on 28 July. The boats are built in the traditional way. These boats are built only for the boat races. The fishing boats are similar, but built stronger, often bigger and mostly with a house in the middle of the boat. The fishing boats have engines. The Faroese boats are quite similar to the Viking boats.
