Statuts, Ordonnances et Armorial de l'Ordre de la Toison d'Or, Folio 043 verso (Statutes, Ordonnances and armorial of the Order of the Golden Fleece) . w:Peter I, Count of Saint-Pol (1390-1433), Count of Brienne. Arms: Lion of Limburg. The cadet branch of the Dukes of Limburg, known as "Luxemburg" (w:Henry V of Luxembourg (d.1281), the first w:Count of Luxembourg, a younger son of w:Waleran III of Limburg, w:Duke of Limburg) substituted a field barry of argent and azure to difference his arms from his elder half-brother Henry IV, Duke of Limburg (see Category:Lion of Luxemburg in heraldry). With the extinction of the senior line (w:Waleran IV, Duke of Limburg (d.1279)) w:Peter I, Count of Saint-Pol (1390-1433), Count of Brienne (a 6th generation descendant of Henry V, Count of Luxembourg), assumed the original Limburg arms. • Provenance: Presented in 1473 by Gilles Gobet, King of Arms of the Order of the Golden Fleece, to Charles the Bold, Duke of Burgundy and the other Knights during the Chapter of the Order held at Valenciennes; Treasure of the Golden Fleece, Brussls; taken away by the Treasurer C.-F. Humyn (d. 1735) or his daughter C.Ch. de Corte; by legacy to her daughter M.-L. de Corte, wife of Ph.-E. de Poederlé; purchased in 1781 at the Poederlé sale by G.-J- Gérard of Brussels; acquired in 1832 as part of the Gérard collection (no.
