Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte, Naples
Construction of the astronomical observatory of Naples, at the Capodimonte hill, started in 1812. The building in neoclassicistic style was inaugurated in 1819. Originally equipped with three domes (the third, central dome is not visible in this view), two larger drum-domes where added later. Today, the observatory hosts the Neapolitan department of Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF).
The obsevatory is aligned in East-West direction. Polaris, the pole star, is visible on top of the frame, above the center of the building. The bright star at left is Capella.Relevante Bilder
