NGC 3132 is a striking example of a planetary nebula. This expanding cloud of gas, surrounding a dying star, is known to amateur astronomers in the southern hemisphere as the Eight-Burst or the Southern Ring nebula.

NGC 3132 ist ein Planetarischer Nebel im Sternbild Segel des Schiffs am Südsternhimmel. Er ist etwa 2000 Lichtjahre von der Sonne entfernt, hat einen Durchmesser von fast einem halben Lichtjahr und expandiert mit einer Geschwindigkeit von rund 15 Kilometern pro Sekunde. NGC 3132 hat eine Flächenausdehnung von 1,47' und eine scheinbare Helligkeit von 9,2 mag.
