NGC 1022
This is a new view of the central region of the interesting NGC 1022, classified as a compact barred spiral galaxy. There isn't that much dust or star formation in this one and it seems to be boarding on being a lenticular galaxy. Hubble looked at this galaxy many years ago, with the WFPC2 instrument, so I instantly recognised this galaxy when I saw it on the archive. To say I got excited would be an understatement. Seeing familiar things in an amazingly higher resolution is always nice.
The core appears to be super colourful and vibrant, so I wonder if there's more going on in this galaxy than meets the eye. It still seems very old. There are lots of globular clusters, something I never noticed with the WFPC2 data. This proposal is just fantastic and I'm completely raiding it.
