Ludlow from the castle Great Tower. Looking almost due east with the Outer Keep of the castle below and the Gatehouse and Tudor Buildings in the outer wall. Beyond that lies the market square and the heart of this ancient town. To the left the tower of St Laurence's Church can just be seen. Ludlow plays host to many events and festivals throughout the year, and this was the occasion of the Food and Drink Festival, held in early September. The competition taking place within the circle of people was the waiters race - two waiters in full regalia carrying trays of food and drinks had to race around an obstacle course which included awkwardly placed tables and "demanding" customers!. Ludlow Castle ist eine mittelalterliche Festungsruine in Ludlow in der englischen Grafschaft Shropshire. Sie steht auf einer Landspitze über dem River Teme. Die Burg ließ vermutlich Walter de Lucy nach der normannischen Eroberung Englands als eine der ersten Steinburgen in England errichten. Im Bürgerkrieg des 12. Jahrhunderts ging die Burg durch verschiedene Hände der Familie Lucy und rivalisierender Clans und wurde mit einem Donjon und einer großen Vorburg weiter verstärkt. Mitte des 13. Jahrhunderts ging Ludlow Castle an Geoffrey de Geneville über, der Teile der Kernburg erneuern ließ. Im Zweiten Krieg der Barone spielte die Burg eine wichtige Rolle. Roger Mortimer erwarb die Burg 1301. Er ließ die Kernburg weiter ausbauen und seine Familie hielt Ludlow Castle über ein Jahrhundert lang. .. weiterlesen
