In 1947, the Ottoman Bank consulted Edmund Dulac, an orientalist designer of banknotes and stamps, to begin working on a distinct and new logo. The olive tree emblem was adopted after various discussions. According to a note written in 1958, the olive tree was chosen for a number of reasons: it symbolises productivity, protection, peace, tenacity and adaptability, moreover it was a plant native to all countries of the bank “territory”. As to the three roots in the illustration, each of them were in reference to the bank’s institutional bases: Istanbul, London and Paris.

Osmanlı Bankası, 1947’de yeni kurum logosu için Şarkiyatçı banknot ve pul tasarımcısı Edmund Dulac ile çalışmaya başladı. Uzun tartışmaların ardından zeytin ağacı tasarımında karar kılındı. 1958 tarihli bir nota göre bu seçimin nedenleri şunlardır: Zeytin ağacı üretkenlik, koruma, barış, dayanıklılık ve uyumu simgeliyordu; üstelik, bankanın faaliyetlerinin odaklandığı Doğu Akdeniz ülkelerinde yaygındı. Tasarımdaki üç kök ise bankanın üçlü yönetimini, yani Paris ve Londra komiteleriyle İstanbul idaresini temsil ediyordu.
