This NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the globular cluster Fornax 3 in the dwarf galaxy Fornax.
New observations of this cluster and three others in the galaxy show that they are very similar to those found in our galaxy, the Milky Way. The finding is at odds with leading theories on how these clusters form — in these theories, globular clusters should be nestled among large quantities of old stars — and so the mystery of how these objects came to exist deepens.

NGC 1049NGC 1049 ist ein Kugelsternhaufen im Sternbild Fornax, der am 19. Oktober 1835 von John Herschel entdeckt wurde. Der Kugelsternhaufen war aufgrund seiner deutlich höheren Flächenhelligkeit lange Zeit vor seiner Heimatgalaxie, der Fornax-Zwerggalaxie Beobachtung zugänglich. NGC 1049 ist der hellste der sechs bekannten Kugelsternhaufen der Fornax-Zwerggalaxie.
