Aerieal port side view of the former Royal Navy convoy sloop and RAN survey vessel HMSA Moresby (I) (ex HMS Silvio) during her first period of World War 2 service as an auxiliary anti-submarine vessel (1939–1940). She is armed with a 4 inch gun forward and depth charge rails and throwers aft. Note the protective p[lating around the forward superstructure. (Naval Historical Collection)

HMAS Moresby (1918)Die HMAS Moresby wurde während des Ersten Weltkriegs für die Royal Navy als Silvio gebaut. Sie war eine Sloop der Racehorse-Klasse, deren Schiffe nach Rennpferden benannt wurden. Als Sloop bezeichnete die Royal Navy recht langsame, vorwiegend zur U-Boot-Bekämpfung bestimmte Geleitschiffe. Sloops zeichneten sich gegenüber den Korvetten und Geleitzerstörern durch eine größere Reichweite aus, weshalb sie dazu prädestiniert waren, Konvois auch in entlegenen Gebieten zu begleiten. .. weiterlesen
