A U.S. Navy Grumman E-1B Tracer (BuNo 148923) of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 121 (VAW-121) Det.42 "Griffins" is about to launch from the starboard catapult of the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42), in February 1970. VAW-121 Det.42 was assigned to Carrier Air Wing 6 (CVW-6) aboard the Franklin D. Roosevelt for a deployment to the Mediterranean Sea from 2 January to 27 July 1970. A Kaman UH-2A/B Seasprite of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 2 (HC-2) Det.42 "Fleet Angels" is visible in the background.
