GreatCourlandBayMonument
The plaque accompanying the Great Courland Bay Monument in Plymouth, Tobago commemorates 17th-century Courlander (Couronian) colonists, who were among the earliest settlers in the area.
The monument itself, a modernist sculpture comprised of tall beige cylinders and a series of steps, made in 1978, is not shown in the photo. The inscription on the plaque reads:
In memory of the bold, enterprising and industrious Courlanders from faraway Latvia on the Baltic shores who had lived in this area, named after them, from 1636 to 1663.
[Date of dedication:] 25-6-78. Sculptor: Janis Mintiks
