Mehmed II and Gennadios II
A mosaic of Mehmed II, the Ottoman sultan who conquered Istanbul, granting authority to Gennadios II, the first Greek Patriarch of Constantinople under Ottoman rule, his authority. The painting is found in the reception room of the Greek Patriarchate. It is up because Bartholomew, the current patriarch, likes to emphasize the relatively harmonious relationship between the Patriarchate and the Ottoman Empire.
