Sarah Winnemucca war eine US-amerikanische Menschenrechtsaktivistin und Schriftstellerin. Als gebürtige Häuptlingstochter der Nördlichen Paiute, die mehrere Jahre bei weißen Siedlern lebte, versuchte sie zeit ihres Lebens zwischen den beiden Völkern zu vermitteln, die Paiute zu unterrichten und ihre Diskriminierung zu beenden. Ihr Buch Life Among the Paiutes: Their Wrongs and Claims aus dem Jahr 1883 gilt als das erste Werk einer indianischen Autorin. Auch ist sie die erste Indianerin, die sich ein Urheberrecht sichern konnte. Nach ihr ist der Venuskrater Winnemucca benannt. .. weiterlesen
