Church of St Mary the Virgin, Ewelme. North side of chest tomb of Alice Chaucer, Duchess of Suffolk]] (1404–1475), born Alice Chaucer, daughter of Thomas Chaucer (son of the poet Geoffrey Chaucer) and Matilda Burghersh. She married w:William de la Pole, 1st Duke of Suffolk (1396-1450). Her son was John de la Pole, 2nd Duke of Suffolk, who married Elizabeth of York, second surviving daughter of Richard of York, 3rd Duke of York (a great-grandson of King Edward III) and Cecily Neville. Elizabeth's brothers included the Yorkist kings Edward IV and Richard III. The monument was restored by Dr Kidd, Rector of Ewelme in 1848 and the shields were repainted. List of coats of arms on south s: (Source:[1], which incorrectly identified the arms of Chaucer as Burghersh throughout.) Arms (right to left/west to east):

1. De la Pole impaling Royal Arms of England (representing her son's marriage to Elizabeth of York).

6. Montacute and Monthermar quartering and impaling Mohun.

7. De la Pole impaling Neville (sic, perhaps Stafford?).

8. Roet impaling Chaucer.
