The Stetson & Post Lumber Company was in business from ca. 1922 to after 1930. Headquarters were in Seattle, and a logging camp was in Maple Valley. Logging operations appear to have ceased by 1928, with only a wholesale lumber concern continuing in business. Maple Valley is a community ten miles south of Renton near the Cedar River in central King County. In 1879, the town was founded by George W. Ames of Seattle, and platted in 1890. In 1888, the name was chosen by George Ames, when a post office was established. It was not for the abundant western maple trees in the area, but for the Maple family (Jacob and Samuel), who settled on the Duwamish River before the Denny party arrived at Alki Point. This particular locomotive, s/n 1527, was a C class locomotive built in 1919 for Augusta Wood Products of Virginia.
