Medallion d. = 56 mm. 48.69 g Ag 1.000 Fine Silver

Commemorating the Peace of Westphalia after the Thirty Years' War

Curved above the Bremen Roland: "STATUA ROLANDI BREMENSIS"/ City view with a bridge over the river Weser with ships. Above 2 flying angels holding the shields of the emperor l., and of the Free City of Bremen r., and dividing 2 lines: "BREMA 1648". Curved above: "CONSERVA DOMINE HOSPITIUM ECCLESIÆ TUÆ". Forrer I, p. 201.

According to legend, Bremen will remain free and independent for as long as Roland stands watch over the city. For this reason, it is alleged that a second Roland statue is kept hidden by the State of Bremen in the town hall's underground vaults, which can be quickly installed as a substitute, should the original fall.

Today Bremen is one of the 16 States of the Federal Republic of Germany.
