Bombing up a Grumman Avenger aircraft on the flight deck of HMS ILLUSTRIOUS sailing in the Indian Ocean in readiness for the raid on Surabaya. The air strike against the Japanese held naval base was carried out by British, American, Australian, French and Dutch units. Several of the armourers are stood inside the aircraft's open bomb bay.
