Juvenile House Sparrow (Passer domesticus). A little bird showing an example of how friendly (read: naive of possible danger) New Zealand birdlife can be. I picked him up after almost stepping on him (you don't expect them to simply remain sitting on the footpath when you walk up!). Thought he might be hurt. While he didn't like being cooped up in the hollow of my hands, he simply climbed out and on top of my hand, sitting there peacefully for almost a minute, before flying away all spry and healthy. Taken in a Manukau City suburb.
