Bank and Town Hall, Thornton Square, Brighouse, Yorkshire. Barclays Bank is the earliest building in this picture, built in a typically dignified style in1875 for the Halifax Commercial Bank. The Town Hall (then known as the Municipal Offices) was built in 1887. It still houses some Calderdale District Council offices. The clock and balustrade was added as a gift from the mayor, Robert Thornton, c.1914. The 'Square' was made around that time when Holroyd's Buildings, which were where the traffic island is, were demolished.
