Atlantic Salmon - geograph.org.uk - 202879
The fast, clear unpolluted waters of the river Lyn are ideal habitat for salmon. Sadly the numbers of fish returning to the river are not what they should be. Many factors are involved, most notably over fishing at sea (both legal and illegal, mostly off the Irish coast). To help maintain stocks many anglers now return most salmon that they catch throughout the season. By law all salmon caught in England and Wales before June 16th must be returned.
Climate change leading to low flows in rivers could spell the end for salmon in southern England, especially in those rivers in populated areas where there is heavy abstraction of water for human consumption/industrial use.Relevante Bilder
