Der italienische Automobilhersteller Alfa Romeo hat in einem Zeitraum von nahezu 100 Jahren Motorsportgeschichte geschrieben. Außergewöhnliche Leistungen und zahlreiche Erfolge prägen die lange Geschichte dieses Engagements. Bereits in der Vorkriegszeit hatte sich das Mailänder Unternehmen erfolgreich an Großen Preisen beteiligt und wurde zum Ursprung der Scuderia Ferrari. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg setzte Alfa Romeo sein Motorsportengagement zunächst in der Formel 1 fort; auch hier dominierte das Unternehmen anfänglich das Renngeschehen. So gingen die ersten beiden Weltmeistertitel der Formel 1 an Alfa-Romeo-Piloten. Nach dem Gewinn des Meistertitels 1951 wandte sich Alfa Romeo für längere Zeit von der Formel 1 ab. In der Folgezeit war Alfa Romeo vorrangig im Tourenwagensport engagiert, später kamen auch Sportwagen hinzu.
