In July 2016, NASA's New Horizons spacecraft imaged the possible dwarf planet (307261) 2002 MS4, from a distance of 15.3au (2.3 billion km, 1.4 billion mi). At the time, the object was visible at apparent magnitude +19.4 from the position of the spacecraft, in the direction of the constellation Hercules.
