1968 Ford GT40 Mk I (14288662849)
The Ford GT40 was a high performance sports car, designed to put an end to Ferraris dominance in long-distance sports car races. The car was named the GT (for Grand Touring) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches. First introduced in 1964, by 1966 the job was done; won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times, from 1966 to 1969, taking the title from Ferrari. 1966 winners; Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon in a Mk II. (Kiwis) 1967 winners; Dan Gurney and A.J.Foyt in a Mk IV. 1968 winners; Rodriguez and Bianchi in this Mk I 1969 winners; Jackie Icyx and Jackie Oliver in this Mk I
The Mk Is were powered by 289 cu.in engines as used in the Ford Mustang, later cars got the 427 from the Galaxie.
This GT40, chassis no 1075, was the car that won the race in 1968 and 1969.
