General Motors was founded in 1908 by William Durant, who at the time was the General Manager of Buick (formed in 1899) In 1911, Durant formed a partnership with Belgian-born race-car driver, Louis Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Motor Company was born. Chevrolet introduced a new body in 1949, a softer, rounded look. For 1950, the 7 short vertical chrome bars below the main horizontal bar were gone and the top of the line Bel Air introduced. The trunkback models were the; Base Styleline Special; 2 door Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, 2 and 4 door Sedans. Upmarket Styleline Deluxe (Stainless Steel trim around windows, beltline mould and rear fender skirts); 2 door Sport Coupe, Convertible, 2 and 4 door Sedans and Wagon The new Styleline Deluxe Bel Air available as the new 2 door Hardtop Also available was the fastback models; The base Fleetline Special and upmarket Fleetline Deluxe were both available in 2 and 4 door Sedans Chevrolet sedans were also produced in Australia by General Motors using modified American bodies from 1926-68.
