Arms (1870s) of w:John Stewart-Murray, 7th Duke of Atholl (1840-1917), son of w:George Murray, 6th Duke of Atholl (1814-1864). "In the 1870s the Castle was again remodelled, at the behest of the 7th Duke; a new entrance hall, front gates and ballroom were added, modern conveniences were installed and the exterior regained the towers and crenulations of its 16th Century appearance"[1] .... "Rebaronialised 1869-71 David Bryce architect, design of west front approximately based on original with Cumming's Tower widened by corbelling, entrance hall added on east side, that side being largely redesigned anew. Ballroom 1876-7, David Bryce, architect, interior" (Listed building text[2].
