Die Anchorage ist ein Amphibious Transport Dock der San-Antonio-Klasse der United States Navy. Sie wurde nach der Stadt Anchorage, Alaska benannt.
Geschichte
Die Anchorage wurde 2006 als siebtes Schiff seiner Klasse in Auftrag gegeben. Der Bauauftrag ging an den Konzern Northrop Grumman, der das Schiff in seiner Werft Avondale Shipyard bauen ließ. Auf Kiel gelegt wurde das Schiff am 24. September 2007. Nach rund dreieinhalb Jahren im Trockendock wurde LPD-23 am 12. Februar 2011 vom Stapel gelassen. Die Taufe auf den Namen Anchorage erfolge am 11. Mai 2011, Taufpatin war Annette Conway, Ehefrau des früheren Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James T. Conway.
Die Anchorage wurde im September 2012 an die US Navy übergeben und am 4. Mai 2013 in Dienst gestellt.

Naval jack of the United States from September 11, 2002 to June 4, 2019; designed in the late 19th century. The flag consists of a rattlesnake superimposed across 13 alternating red and white stripes with the motto, "Don't Tread On Me" (without apostrophe).
First Navy Jack of the United States as (supposedly) used by the Continental Navy from October 13, 1775 through December 31, 1776. In 1980, the Secretary of the Navy directed the commissioned ship in active status having the longest total period in active status to display the rattlesnake jack in place of the union jack until decommissioned or transferred to inactive status. Since September 11, 2002, the flag has been flown by the United States Navy for the duration of the "Global War on Terrorism."
