Über die Französische Revolution ging auch sein drittes Buch The Origins of the French Revolutionary Wars (1986). 1994 veröffentlichte er eine Biografie des Kaisers Joseph II. Es folgten einige kulturhistorische Arbeiten. Weitere Biografien behandelten 2015 Friedrich den Großen und 2017 Georg I.
