Dies ist die Liste der State Parks im US-Bundesstaat Kalifornien. Im Juni 2009 gab es in Kalifornien 279 State Parks, deren Unterhalt sich auf 143 Millionen US-Dollar beläuft. 2008 konnten 80 Millionen State-Park-Besucher gezählt werden, die ein breites Spektrum an Themen aus Ökologie, Archäologie oder Ethnokultur in Redwoodwäldern, Geisterstädten oder Museen entdecken konnten. Rund 2000 bezahlte Kräfte kümmern sich in den kalifornischen State Parks um Erhaltung und Schutz von Natur, Landschaft, Gebäuden und Infrastruktur. Für die Betreuung der State Parks ist das California Department of Parks and Recreation zuständig.

Schließungspläne

Im Juni 2009 wurden Planungen der kalifornischen Regierung bekannt, nach denen bis zu 220 der 279 State Parks[1] von der Schließung bedroht sind[2], um das Haushaltsdefizit zu verringern. Die Einsparungen würden in Größenordnung von 0,6 % des Gesamtdefizits liegen, wobei die konkreten Umsetzungen noch nicht ausformuliert waren. Die 59 State Parks, die erhalten bleiben sollen,[3] werfen messbare Gewinne ab. Die Gegner der Schließung rechnen dagegen vor, dass jeder investierte Dollar durchschnittlich das 2,35-fache an Ertrag im Umfeld der State Parks einbringen würde.[4]

Die Schließungspläne wurden weiter konkretisiert und im Mai 2011 legte Gouverneur Jerry Brown ein Konzept vor, nach dem 70 Parks im Sommer 2012 geschlossen werden, die so ausgewählt wurden, dass 92 % der Besucher offene Parks vorfinden und 94 % der Einnahmen durch Eintrittsgelder erhalten bleiben. Die Verwaltung sucht gemeinnützige Organisationen, die als Träger einzelne Parks auf der Schließungsliste übernehmen könnten.[5]
