Das Special Vehicle Team (Abk. SVT) ist ein Zweig der Ford Motor Company, der aus dem früheren Special-Vehicle-Operations-Bereich von Ford hervorgegangen ist. Es ist für die Entwicklung der stärksten Fahrzeuge von Ford verantwortlich und somit mit AMG von Mercedes-Benz oder der BMW M GmbH vergleichbar. Zurzeit ist Hermann Salenbach als Leiter eingesetzt.
Allgemein
Hauptsächlich produziert SVT getunte Versionen von Ford-Fahrzeugen. Das bekannteste Modell ist hier der Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500. Allerdings entstehen auch eigenständige Fahrzeuge, wie zum Beispiel das GT Supercar, das zusammen mit Saleen entwickelt wurde. SVT wurde 1992 durch mehrere Mitglieder der Marketing- und Managementabteilung von Ford gegründet. Zuvor existierte SVO (Special Vehicle Operations). Hier entstand der zwischen 1984 und 1986 produzierte Mustang SVO mit einem 2,3-Liter Turbo-Motor. Außerdem stellte SVO diverse Tuningteile zur Verfügung. Nach der Gründung von SVT übernahm „Ford Racing Performance Parts“ (FRPP) diese Aufgabe.

Ford's Special Vehicle Team built a number of high-performance modified versions of Ford's volume models over the years.
The 1993 Cobra is one of the best known. It closed out the production of this particular generation of the Mustang (1979-1993) with a bang. Its relatively affordable high performance was well noted by enthusiasts and collectors.
This particular Cobra is a race-ready Cobra R, with additional performance upgrades. Its engine was good for 235 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. It was available only with red exterior and gray interior. Only 107 were built, and all were sold out before they were delivered to dealerships.
At the test drive area, I could drive a brand-new 2012 Mustang GT with 5.0L engine, and/or ride shotgun with a professional driver in a Boss 302 Mustang. I did drive the GT, and appreciated both its power and its cornering on the test track.
