Die Snookerweltmeisterschaft 1981 fand vom 6. April bis zum 20. April 1981 im Crucible Theatre in Sheffield statt.
Steve Davis gewann gegen Doug Mountjoy seinen ersten Weltmeisterschaftstitel, nachdem er im Viertel- und Halbfinale die Weltmeister von 1979 und 1980 besiegen konnte. Mountjoy erzielte im Halbfinale mit 145 nicht nur das höchste Break des Turniers, sondern auch das bis dahin höchste bei einer Weltmeisterschaft überhaupt, wofür es einen Bonus von 5.000 Pfund gab.
