Philip Ball

Philip Ball (* 8. Oktober 1962) ist ein englischer Chemiker, Physiker und Autor populärwissenschaftlicher Sachbücher.

Leben

Ball studierte Chemie an der Universität Oxford und promovierte in Physik an der Universität Bristol. Er arbeitete etwa 20 Jahre als Redakteur für die Zeitschrift Nature.

Er lebt seit Jahren im Großraum London.

Auszeichnungen

2004 erschien Balls Buch Critical Mass: How One Thing Leads To Another, das 2005 mit dem Royal Society Prize for Science Books ausgezeichnet wurde. Sein Buch Serving the Reich: The Struggle for the Soul of Physics under Hitler (The Bodley Head) war auf der Shortlist des Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books 2014.^[1] Dieser renommierte britische Preis ist dotiert mit £ 2500 Preisgeld für Nominierte, der Gewinner bekommt das Zehnfache. Elegant Solutions erhielt 2007 den Dingle Prize. Für 2019 wurde Ball die Kelvin Medal des Institute of Physics zugesprochen.
