Der Schwimmwettkampf über 100 Meter Freistil der Männer bei den Olympischen Spielen 1996 in Atlanta wurde am 28. Juli ausgetragen. Der Russe Alexander Popow, der bereits vier Jahre zuvor in dieser Disziplin Olympiasieger wurde, konnte seinen Titel verteidigen. Silber ging an Gary Hall junior aus den Vereinigten Staaten. Der Brasilianer Gustavo Borges, der in Barcelona 1992 Silber gewann, schwamm zu Bronze.
