Vegetative Merkmale

Die Arten von Nymphaea subg. Nymphaea haben horizontale oder vertikale Rhizome. Die Blattränder sind nie gezähnt.^[2]

Generative Merkmale

Die tagblühenden Blüten schwimmen auf der Wasseroberfläche.^[2] Die äußeren Staubblätter haben petaloide Staubfäden.^[3] Die Staubblätter haben kein steriles Anhängsel an der Spitze.^[2]^[4] Die Blütenblätter sind überwiegend weiß, aber auch rosa, rot und gelb gefärbt.^[4] Die großen Samen haben eine glatte Oberfläche.^[2]
