MTV Video Music Awards 1997

Die Verleihung der MTV Video Music Awards 1997 fand am 4. September 1997 statt. Verliehen wurde der Preis an Videos, die vom 17. Juni 1996 bis zum 16. Juni 1997 ihre Premiere hatten. Die Verleihung fand in der Radio City Music Hall, New York City, New York statt. Moderator war Chris Rock.

Gewinner des Abends war Beck, der insgesamt fünf Awards gewann, dicht gefolgt mit vier von Jamiroquai, die für ihr Video zu Virtual Insanity den Hauptpreis Video of the Year mit nach Hause nahmen. Sie führten mit insgesamt zehn Nominierungen auch die Nominierungsliste an.

In diesem Jahr erregte die „Dankesrede“ von Fiona Apple, die den Award for Best New Artist in a Video erhielt, Aufmerksamkeit, die eine Hasstirade auf MTV selbst darstellte.^[1]
