This small Bronze Age wedge tomb, found in Lord Massey's Woods in the Dublin Mountains, still has many stones in place but the cairn stone infill has mainly disappeared (most likely used a material for the dry stone wall that runs past the site), leaving just low skeletal remains, which may be why the site was not identified until 1978. It is very similar in layout to the two other wedge tombs in the Dublin Mountains found at Ballyedmonduff and Kilmashogue. As can be seen in the picture, the stones forming the walls of the 4m long gallery are nearly all present as are many of the stones from the outer double walling.

Wedge Tomb Wedge tomb on the walk to Proleek Dolmen. The gallery is 6 metres in length and 1.5 metres wide at the west end, narrowing to just over a metre wide at the east end, which is covered by two remaining roof stones. At the west or nearest end in the image below, is a large septal slab closing the gallery. You can also see how the construction of the gallery tomb has been very precise.

Loughash Tomb. Known on the OS maps as 'Giants Grave', this burial tomb dates from around 4500 years ago. It is called a wedge tomb because it narrows in size from front to back and also decreases in height. There are twenty-two wedge tombs in Co Tyrone and over 500 in Ireland as a whole. This site is built on a terrace on a hillside sloping down from the north with Lough Ash as backdrop to the south. The entrance facing west has a double portal arrangement leading to the burial chamber. Originally the whole gallery would have been roofed with capstones, but only one now remains. It is enclosed by a wedge-shaped cairn. Oliver Davies excavated here in 1938 and several artefacts were uncovered in the gallery including a mould for a palstave (a type of axe), a bronze blade and a small copper ring. Fragments from four Beaker pots and about five other vessels were found along with various flint flakes. There was some charcoal and cremated bone, the remains of perhaps three individuals, the main burial being in a pit towards the back of the burial gallery.

Known locally as the "Giant's Grave", this is a wedge-shaped gallery grave – a type of communal burial place built in the second millenium B. C. The three compartments of the central chamber which housed the burials were surrounded by a horseshoe-shaped setting of stones and covered by a cairn. When excavated in 1945 the tomb produced Beaker pottery and flint implements.

Clogherny Chambered Grave (close-up) This well preserved monument on the partly cut-away bog near Meenerrigal Rocks consists of a very elegant stone circle of eleven tall schist stones surrounding a wedge tomb orientating towards the south-west and set slightly towards the west side of the stone circle. The tomb consists of a single gallery covered at the north-east by a large capstone. A pair of entrance jambs, formerly capped, stand to the south-west. There is a long sillstone across the entrance and this forms part of the facade. There is a good outer kerb defining a heel-shaped cairn. Oliver Davies excavated the site in 1937. He saw it as an opportunity to investigate the unusual link between the surrounding stone circle and the wedge tomb within. A layer of cobbling, now covered again, was spread between the uprights of the stone circle. No pottery was found in the excavation and the only finds were some burnt human bone and half a barbed flint arrowhead.
