SMR steht für „Sites and Monument Record“.

Chambered Grave at Beltany, County Tyrone. It is located on the main road between Omagh and Newtownstewart, in a field on the left hand side as you approach Beltany Lodge, after passing the Mellon Country Inn. A fine example of an ancient site that has remained untouched through the years.

Knockoneill Cairn There seems to be more stones lying about than at the actual monument. Dating from about 3000 BC, this very dramatic two chambered megalithic tomb with a
semicircular forecourt, an antechamber and a subsidiary chamber is enclosed within a rectangular cairn. This site is particularly unique as in the early Bronze Age a round cairn was superimposed on the earlier long cairn and remains of its curving kerb may still be traced.
The site was originally excavated in 1948 by IJ Herring who found a pygmy cup and urn fragments, finds relating to the Bronze phase. Thirty years later it was re-excavated by L Flanagan who found Neolithic pottery and a flint blade in the burial chamber, a Bronze Age cremation and pottery in pits in the forecourt and a stone cyst containing green oval stone bead was found inserted into the later round cairn. A very fragmentary, undecorated Beaker pot of the early Bronze Age was also found in the round cairn and from beneath the cairn a stone axe was recovered.Autor/Urheber: Wanfried-Dublin, Lizenz: CC BY-SA 4.0
